The foods that contribute to weight gain are largely a result of too much sugar and too much refined carbohydrates. Exercise is 5% of it (I would have said it was 70/30, so this was interesting). High insulin levels are a direct result of poor diet, and are 95% of the cause of obesity. High insulin levels are responsible for obesity, and to a smaller degree, so can high cortisol levels (being overly stressed can lead to weight gain). The main theory of the book is that the root cause of obesity and weight gain is a complex hormonal imbalance, that stems from high blood insulin levels. Highly recommended for everyone (the title is misleading, its not just for obese people). Well backed with science and uses studies to make all his points. The best book about how to eat healthy and the reasoning behind it that I've yet read.
